Hives are essentially the place where the bees live. From a plethora of options available out there, you can either choose from bee kits or starter hive packages. While the latter is on the steeper side, it is an excellent option for beginners as it saves you the trouble of buying hives separately.

Protective Clothing

The primary gear that you should have in the beekeeping trove is protective clothing that will cover you from head to toe. If you are a beginner in the world of beekeeping, you should ensure that you protect yourself from the occasional wrath of the bees. As a novice, you can choose a suit covering your entire body, and when you gain more experience and familiarity with the bees, you can switch to only wearing a hat and veil.

Smoker

There is no denying that even the calmest bees can occasionally turn aggressive, especially when they feel that the hive is under attack. When honey bees feel threatened, they release an alarm pheromone that alerts other bees in the area of the threat, turning the entire hive into an aggressive frenzy. This is where a smoker comes in. It masks the alarm pheromone and renders their ability to communicate inactive, temporarily placating the bees.

There are also other equipments that you might need as you move further along in your beekeeping journey. These equipments include a hive tool, beehive frames, gloves, and a bee feeder.
